I had to call for an electrician this afternoon as we had the power going off in several rooms of the house. I was given Anthony Orozco's card from another business who happened to be here. Anthony got back with me right away and within 20 minutes he was at my house. It was Friday and after 2pm. He had to replace a circuit breaker in one of our panels. I was so impressed that he was able to come out on a Friday afternoon, complete the work, and be so professional and courteous. I will definitely recommend Good Neighbors Electric to everyone.

I called Good Neighbor Electric in the morning to get a quote for the insulation of my Electric Vehicle (EV)charger. My EV charger requires a 100 AMP circuit and I wasn’t sure if my panel had the capacity for it. Anthony came out to the house that afternoon to check out the electrical panel, EV charger, and site. I received a quote the next day. After obtaining competitive quotes from other companies I found Good Neighbor Electric to be the best price. We scheduled the installation for the following week. Anthony’s people showed up on time and were very professional and courteous. During the installation Anthony came out to inspect and oversee the job. I couldn’t be happier with the installation, my charger looks good on the wall and is working flawlessly. I highly recommend Good Neighbor Electric for your electrical needs and I will be using them in the future.

We needed an electrical outlet installed for our new tankless water heater. Tony came out to provide us a quote. He looked at all the possible ways to configure the circuit and chose the best one for our situation. He was very knowledgeable. Also, contacting him was easy and he had great communication with any questions we had. Later, when the technician came to install the circuit and outlet, they were on time, efficient and the result was just what we needed. We would definitely use them again.

Needed Tony to help me out with a remodel of my sister's medical office in SLO. We had our time line pushed up and I needed 50 data drops pulled by tomorrow, before insulation and drywall started. Tony got his crew together and saved the day! He ran ~3k' of Cat6 in two trips. Time was of the essence but he still managed to make it neat and presentable. We couldn't be happier with Good Neighbors Electric!

Tony, Skyler, Eli, and Adam were phenomenal! Setting up a big, new 200 Amp panel to replace an ancient 50 Amp panel, and all that goes with that for a 70-year old house, whew!! The team is happy, fast, upbeat, and creative. I believe there's nothing they can't do! New she-shed wired up, garage tricked out, and house safe and sound, thank you Tony and team, you are a wonderful group, we enjoyed every minute. And that's saying a lot when it comes to construction! To top it off, Good Neighbors Electric quoted a very fair price, arranged permitting and inspections, and went the extra mile to accommodate last minute ideas. 😊 Thank you, thank you, we will wholeheartedly refer you to everyone!

I can not say enough good things about this company! Absolutely incredible service, communication, and the work was amazing! The crew came out, replaced my 1965 electric box. They did the permit, they fixed the stucco after pulling the old box out. I would use them over any other electrician out there!

Anthony and his crew were amazing! First of all, he was able to come over the same day I contacted him to see the job and get started on a quote. I’d been given the runaround from other companies, so working with Anthony was like a sweet relief. Job was finished perfectly the following week & they even fixed a couple extra switches that were wired funky by a previous electrician. I will definitely be calling Good Neighbors Electric for all my future needs and recommending them to everyone I know! Thanks again guys!

Our Outdoor Lighting Installation Service in Atascadero, CA

Outdoor lighting planning starts with understanding your goals. Security lighting illuminates entry points, walkways, and dark areas around the home. Decorative lighting highlights architectural features, landscaping, and gathering spaces. Safety lighting marks steps, paths, and elevation changes. Functional lighting supports outdoor cooking, dining, and recreation areas. We discuss these goals during the estimate.

Low-voltage lighting systems are the standard for most landscape applications. The 12-volt fixtures pose minimal shock risk and use less energy than line-voltage alternatives. Transformers convert 120-volt house current to 12 volts for the fixtures. Direct burial cable runs from the transformer to the fixtures. The systems are flexible, allowing easy fixture additions and changes over time.

Line-voltage outdoor lighting handles applications that need higher output or specific fixture types. Floodlights, security lights, and certain decorative fixtures often run on 120 volts. The wiring requires conduit or weather-resistant cable, with code-compliant grounding throughout. GFCI protection guards against shock hazards. We use the right approach for each specific application.

Fixture selection affects both performance and longevity. Quality outdoor fixtures use durable materials like brass, copper, and stainless steel that resist corrosion. Plastic fixtures cost less but have shorter service lives in outdoor environments. LED light sources have replaced halogen and incandescent in modern outdoor lighting, with significant energy and life advantages. We recommend fixtures appropriate for your specific environment.

Path and walkway lighting follows safe spacing patterns. Fixtures spaced 8 to 12 feet apart provide overlapping light pools that eliminate dark spots. The fixture height balances visibility against illumination spread. We plan path layouts during the estimate to deliver safe, attractive walkways.

Spot and accent lighting highlights features beautifully. Trees, architectural elements, water features, and garden focal points all benefit from accent lighting. The fixtures aim at the feature, with beam angles matched to the target size. Color temperature affects the mood, with warmer light typically preferred for residential applications. We help you plan accent lighting that creates the look you want.

Smart controls extend outdoor lighting capabilities. Astronomical timers automatically adjust lighting schedules for seasonal changes in sunset times. Smart switches and controllers enable remote control through smartphone apps. Motion sensors activate security lights when needed. Photocells turn lights on at dusk and off at dawn automatically. We integrate the right controls for your needs.

Final commissioning verifies the entire system works correctly. Each fixture is energized and tested for proper operation. Timer and control programming is verified. Connections in junction boxes are checked for tightness and weatherproofing. The result is an outdoor lighting system ready for years of reliable performance. Good Neighbors Electric leaves the property clean, with debris removed and any landscape disturbance minimized.

Outdoor lighting installation involves weather-resistant materials, proper grounding, and code compliance that benefit from professional expertise. Improper installations cause premature failures, shock hazards, and code violations. Licensed electricians understand the specific requirements for outdoor work, including conduit selection, GFCI protection, and grounding for outdoor circuits. We carry insurance that protects you if something goes wrong on the job. Our work meets the California Electrical Code, which protects your homeowner’s insurance. Good Neighbors Electric brings field experience to outdoor lighting installations across Atascadero. Anthony Orozco trains every electrician on the specific challenges of outdoor work. You get a 2-year workmanship warranty, a waived dispatch fee when you proceed, and a team that respects your property throughout the project. Improper outdoor lighting causes failures, hazards, and disappointing aesthetics. Professional installation supports the look and reliability you want.

Most Common Outdoor Lighting Installation Questions

Outdoor lighting installation enhances safety, security, and aesthetics around your home, with weather-resistant equipment, proper wiring, and thoughtful design all part of the work. Below are the questions Atascadero homeowners ask most often before scheduling service.

Outdoor lighting costs depend on the scope, the fixture types, and the wiring complexity. Simple installations of a few security or path lights are the most affordable. Comprehensive landscape lighting with multiple zones, accent lighting, and smart controls cost more. Whole-property lighting designs represent the largest projects.

The fixture selection significantly affects total cost. Quality landscape fixtures from manufacturers like Kichler, Volt, and FX Luminaire cost more upfront but last longer than budget options. Cheap fixtures often need replacement within a few years, making them more expensive over time. We help you understand the trade-offs.

Financing makes outdoor lighting projects practical for more homeowners. Spreading the cost over manageable payments preserves your budget. The dispatch fee is waived when you proceed, and the 2-year workmanship warranty applies to every installation. Good Neighbors Electric is committed to fair pricing on outdoor lighting work.

Several lighting types serve different purposes outdoors. Path lights illuminate walkways with downward-directed light from short fixtures. Spot lights focus narrow beams on specific features like trees or architectural elements. Flood lights provide broad illumination for security or general lighting of larger areas.

Wall lights mount on the home’s exterior walls, providing both decorative and functional lighting. Step lights install in or near steps for safety. Deck and patio lights illuminate outdoor living areas. String lights add festive ambiance to outdoor entertaining spaces. Landscape lighting covers a broad category that combines multiple types into integrated designs.

Specialty fixtures serve specific purposes. Underwater lights illuminate ponds, fountains, and pool features. Hardscape lights mount on retaining walls and other landscape structures. Address numbers can be backlit or illuminated for better visibility. Good Neighbors Electric helps you select the right types for your specific needs and design goals.

Low-voltage lighting uses 12-volt systems powered by a transformer that reduces 120-volt house current. The fixtures pose minimal shock risk, use less energy, and offer flexible installation options. Direct burial cable can run between fixtures without conduit, simplifying installation. Most landscape lighting uses low-voltage systems for these reasons.

Line-voltage lighting uses standard 120-volt power. The fixtures often produce more light per fixture, which suits applications needing high output. The wiring requires conduit or weather-resistant cable, with proper grounding and GFCI protection. Floodlights, security lights, and certain decorative fixtures commonly use line voltage.

The right choice depends on the application. Most landscape and accent lighting works well on low voltage. High-output security and area lighting often uses line voltage. Some installations combine both approaches, with low-voltage decorative lighting and line-voltage security fixtures. Good Neighbors Electric helps you choose based on your specific needs.

LED light sources are the foundation of efficient outdoor lighting. They use 75 to 90 percent less energy than incandescent bulbs while producing equal or better light. Service life extends to 25 to 50 times longer, reducing replacement frequency. Modern landscape and security fixtures predominantly use LED lighting.

Smart controls add efficiency through automation. Photocells turn lights on at dusk and off at dawn automatically. Timers run lights only during desired hours. Motion sensors activate lights only when needed. Each of these reduces total operating hours compared to manual operation.

Astronomical timers adjust schedules for seasonal sunset changes automatically. Smart controls connected to home automation can integrate with occupancy patterns and weather conditions. The combination of LED fixtures and smart controls dramatically reduces operating costs compared to traditional outdoor lighting. Good Neighbors Electric helps you plan efficient systems that minimize ongoing electricity costs.

LED outdoor fixtures typically last 50,000 hours or more under normal use, which translates to many years of nightly operation. The actual life depends on quality, operating temperature, and environmental conditions. Premium fixtures often outlast their warranties significantly.

Halogen and incandescent bulbs in older outdoor fixtures last much shorter periods, typically 1000 to 2000 hours. Replacing these older bulb types with LED equivalents extends life dramatically while reducing energy use. Many older fixtures can be retrofitted with LED replacements.

Environmental conditions affect longevity. Coastal areas with salt air corrode fixtures faster than inland locations. Extreme temperatures stress LEDs and other components. Quality fixtures with appropriate ratings handle these conditions better than budget options. Good Neighbors Electric installs fixtures appropriate for your specific environment. The investment in quality pays off through years of reliable performance.

Outdoor wiring must follow specific code requirements for safety. Conductors and cables rated for outdoor use, GFCI protection on outdoor outlets and circuits, and proper grounding throughout are all required. Buried conductors need proper depth, with code requirements ranging from 6 inches for low-voltage systems to 24 inches for line-voltage circuits.

Outlet covers must be rated for outdoor use. Standard covers protect outlets when nothing is plugged in. While-in-use covers, often called bubble covers, protect outlets even when equipment is connected during weather. New outdoor outlets typically require while-in-use covers under current code.

Specific applications have additional requirements. Pool and spa areas have extensive code requirements that go beyond standard outdoor wiring. Fountain and water feature lighting has specific rules for safety. We follow all applicable code requirements during installation. Good Neighbors Electric brings the experience to address these requirements correctly.

Yes, outdoor lighting integrates well with smart home systems. Smart switches and controllers enable remote control through smartphone apps. Voice control through Alexa, Google Assistant, or Siri offers hands-free operation. Scheduling and scene control activate lighting patterns automatically.

Integration with security systems extends the benefits. Motion-triggered lighting, automatic activation when alarm systems detect events, and coordination with surveillance cameras all add capability. Vacation modes simulate occupancy through randomized lighting patterns. The integration enhances both convenience and security.

Color-changing fixtures add another dimension when integrated with smart controls. The lights can shift colors for holidays, parties, or daily moods. The capability adds creative possibilities beyond traditional lighting. Good Neighbors Electric installs smart outdoor lighting infrastructure during projects or as standalone upgrades. The investment supports modern living.

Permit requirements depend on the work scope. Low-voltage landscape lighting typically does not require permits, since the 12-volt systems are considered low-risk. Line-voltage outdoor lighting that requires new circuits typically requires permits. Connecting to existing outdoor circuits without new wiring may not require permits.

When permits apply, Good Neighbors Electric handles the process as part of the installation. We pull the paperwork, schedule the inspection, and meet the inspector on site. The customer experience is straightforward, with no paperwork burden on you. The inspection record becomes part of your home’s documentation.

Some homeowners associations have requirements for outdoor lighting that go beyond code. Restrictions on light direction, color, and brightness sometimes apply. We help identify these requirements during planning. Good Neighbors Electric handles the entire process so your outdoor lighting meets every applicable requirement. The result is lighting that improves your home for years.
